Next Steps Lesson 3:

The Gospel

THE GOSPEL DEFINED

The word "gospel" literally means “good news.” It’s a translation of the Greek word "euangelion," which is a combination of "eu" (good) and "angelos" (messenger), thus meaning "good message" or "good tidings." It refers, in short, to the life, death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

6 KEY POINTS OF THE GOSPEL

1.) God Made All Things Good

“And God saw everything that he had made, and behold, it was very good.”
GENESIS 1:31

2.) We Sinned Against God

“For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.”
ROMANS 3:23

“For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
ROMANS 6:23

3.) God Did What We Could Not

“The Word became flesh and dwelt among us.”
JOHN 1:14

“For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.”
2 CORINTHIANS 5:21

4.) Jesus Died For Us

“Christ died for our sins in accordance with the scriptures.”
1 CORINTHIANS 15:3

5.) Jesus Defeated Death

“He was raised on the third day in accordance with the scriptures.”
1 CORINTHIANS 15:4

6.) We Believe And Receive

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, That whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.”
JOHN 3:16

“Confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.”
ROMANS 10:9
