A Godly Line
- The generations of the heavens and earth (2:4-5:24) ends with man's wickedness escalating.
- However, God keeps His promise (3:15) and gives Eve a new son named Seth from which the Savior can be born (5:25).
- Chapter 5 details the Godly line of Seth until Noah.

A Foreshadowing of Christ
- Adam lives to see all Seth's children except Noah. Lamech sees "Relief" in the birth of Noah after Adam's death as he hopes that sins curse will die with him. He is wrong.
- This relief will only come at the birth of Jesus who Noah's favored line will eventually produce.
